Rice is the seed of a grass species called Oryza sativa. This domesticated cereal grain is the most widely consumed food staple for more than half the world's population.

Rice water and rice bran have been used for centuries in Asia due to its many natural benefits for the skin. Fermented rice water is rich in antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins B and E. It can brighten, hydrate, and firm the skin, balance skin tone, minimize fine lines, help with hyperpigmentation (acne scars and sun spots) and fade dark spots. It has also been suggested that rice water may help improve and repair the skin barrier.
