Collection: Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is discoloration of the skin, making some areas appear darker. It can appear as brown, grey, black, pink, or red patches. This skin condition is caused by an excess amount of melanin, which is what gives our skin its color. This increase can be caused by many things, but sun exposure, age, inflammation, and hormones are the main culprits.
What to do: Look for products that contain vitamin C. This ingredient protects the skin from free radicals, which slows down melanin production. Vitamin C has been shown to fade dark spots and improve skin tone. Niacinamide is another ingredient that reduces the concentration of melanin and promotes cell turnover. For more severe cases, dermatologists recommend professional laser and chemical peels.
